... no, not outside (although it is about 1 deg C out there).. After the joy of ordering my new machine last week, our facilities team have shattered that enjoyment by limiting me to using it in one of the server-rooms until its power-requirements can be monitored (apparently it has a 1kW supply and can reach up to 10amps drawn). In mid-Jan we've got some electrical work going on which will allow us get some extra power-feeds routed to our floor-boxes, until then, I'm not allowed to put these 2xQuadCore Xeon beasts onto the normal power-circuits. :sigh: The server-room is over-airconditioned in my view, or maybe it's because the only desk in there is right under the vent! :~ -- modified at 11:55 Thursday 21st December, 2006 -- fixed "their" screw-up picked up in first reply! :-D

I have asked for 20amp circuit to be drawn to each programmer... :) I have had my 20amp for a while, and debating on asking for it to be upgraded to 30amp. 4 computer rack, plus laptop. :)

Actually, it should go to Ray - got to play with a 1kW 2xDualCore Xeon baby and complains about the weather

Apparently, we used to be able to handle load we require -- but last year when we switched everyone in the building from 4xCRT to LCDs, we had the circuits downgraded due to some new regulations that we need to meet.

I do understand... they've tried to take power from us as well, at least on paper. I invite them over to see the room 6 computers on one wall, 8 on another, 2 on the other two. My office has three at the moment, with one pulled out of the rack, if it goes back it will be 4 again, then when I plug in the laptop.... well... after they see it, they don't try to take power away.
