Installing SATA RAID 1 on new PC

In my continuing series of posts on the new PC I've built I have a question about setting up RAID drives. The PC has 2 x 320G SATA II drives with RAID on the motherboard. I understand I need to install some RAID software from a diskette when Windows gets installed. I've already installed WinXP so the question is do I need to re-install or is there some other way to get the diskette code into Windows. Also related do you need to have RAID installed and configured before installing Windows or can it be added later and the second drive set to update itself to mirror the first. I will be using RAID 1. Any tips greatly appreciated. Merry xmas to you all from down under.

Normally, there are drivers that can be installed later if you use the raid just for data. You need the driver disk only if you need to reconize the drive during Windows Install (e.g. when you put your ystem on it). Buth things may be different... a collegue ended up "hot pluging" the PCI RAID card after a botched upgrade to XP

Then it's reinstall from scratch. Setup loads a core set of drivers to run, and there are no RAID driver included. There's a short moment where "to install a RAID, press F6" flashes over the screen. Don't miss it!

As mentioned you'll likely need to reinstall if the OS is to be on a RAID partition. When i installed my system last Jan there was an issue with the nForce drivers being unsigned and the F6 not working (Win would reinstall older, but signed drivers on first real boot - thus hosing the install).
