I just came back from National Stadium Karachi after watching the first one day cricket match b/w Pakistan and New Zealand. Kiwis got completely ruined in the departments of both bowling and batting. Shoaib Akhtar taken 6 wickets and bowled his fastest of career 99.6 miles/hour. After the match NewZealand captain said that his team mates became the victim of food poisoning due to the intense heat in Pakistan. Also some disturbance created by crowd and then the tear gas also added some more trouble. In the game like cricket one has to not only face the challenge of opponent, but also have to face the tough weather conditions of the country where you are playing. It seems to me that NewZeland cricketers are not taught to face the realities like these. No doubt they are talented enough, but NewZealand cricket board has to seriously taken into consideration this matter and make arrangements for training their cricketers in a manner so that they can get use to absorbing the different weather conditions otherwise this will definitely cause adverse effects on their country's cricket. Thats a bit harsh if there really was food poisoning. There's many a tale of tourists to pakistan/india and the likes having problems with the food. Its happened so much in the past that a lot of players take their own canned food over just so that they won't get sick. Adapting to conditions is one thing, but adapting to playing your best while trying not to throw up is completely different. Imagine one of those days when you're lying in bed instead of sitting in front of your screen, but while your lying there, you're getting balls thrown at you at 100 mph and having to score runs.... Throw in a bit of tear gas (which I'm sure the young NZ team is not used to)....... well, I'm sure you can see where I'm going.... Anyway, I put the blame for the NZ loss squarely on the Pakistani team.... they played too damn well. Here's hoping the Kiwis can get up (at all) for the next game... Paul

            >. Shoaib Akhtar taken 6 wickets and bowled his fastest of career 99.6 >miles/hour. is he still chucking or has he fixed that action? Well done though, he is an excellent player. >In the game like cricket one has to not only face the challenge of >opponent, but also have to face the tough weather conditions of the >country where you are playing. Indeed you do, but there are a long list of international cricketers who have fallen ill with food poisoning in Pakistan - not just from NZ, but Australia, the UK etc etc despite the best precautions taken. I'm sure when Pakistan travels to NZ they are made more welcome and treated with more respect before, during and after each game than the kiwis seem to be being treated. Teargas is not and should not be part of any sporting event - especially in a country with a checkered security history...If someone was chucking teargas around at a sporting event i was partaking in i'm sure it would put me off my game, I feel this reflects poorly on Pakistan, not on the kiwis. Stephen Flemming is a very good captian and ambassador for the game as a whole - I have never seen him behave inappropriately. Bryce
