Well, it's not the first time I have a credit card, so I know how do use them. The reason I applied the AmEx Gold Card is it will make me look good in restaurants. The Gold Card makes me look like a man, now I need a bimmer.

I was refering more to your boosted credit limit.

Probably the worst reason, if you ask me, which you didn't.

Credit limit? Does it have a credit limit on American Express? I think it's a little different than other credit cards. I remember when I applied for CitiBank Credit Card, after the approval message, it told me how much credit limit on the card. AmEx didn't say anything about limit. Don't know, lets wait and see. I'll be receiving it within 2 weeks. ;P

Of course it does make you look good. Imagine on your first date with your dream girl, once the dinner is over, and you pull out your gold card! Now, that will make a good first impression. ;P

Just stop and think for a moment.  What would it benefit Amex to NOT give you a card, which, best case scenario for them, you'll go crazy with and pay them interest for the rest of your life ?

Unfortunately lots of girls are like this these days... you need to have at least something to impress a girl.

At least in the US, the Amex Gold card is generally a "pay it off each month" charge card. It usually doesn't have a preset limit, but that by no means says it's unlimited - it means you usually don't know that you've spent too much until they decline you :). They base the point at which they cut you off on your salary, your spending and payment patterns and the like. There are certain kinds of purchases that you can choose to pay off over time, like travel and high-ticket items, but I wouldn't go there - I think the interest rates are fairly high. But if the only reason you got the card was to impress women, then I agree with the others - the only thing that's likely to do is impress the ones who want you to spend all of your money on them, and they'll probably assume you have lots to spend. Other women will likely only find it worth a small amount of notice because in general it suggests you're responsible enough to pay your bills - at least, that would be my only thought about it, if I thought about it at all.

Caffeine - it's what's for breakfast! (and lunch, and dinner, and...)

How about a good sense of humour? Seriously, I really think you are going after the wrong type of girl. Gold Diggers will take you for every penny you have (or every penny a bank will lend you) Like I said been there, done that - and if it wasn't for my parents helping me out I'd have been sequestrated* * Isn't Scots Law wonderful. They don't call it bankruptcy because that doesn't sound painful enough. They call it "sequestration" - Where the bank have you by the balls

See, that's what confuses me. If they don't have a reset limit, how do I know when are they going to decline me? Anyway, I'll ask them when I activate the card.

See, that's what confuses me. If they don't have a reset limit, how do I know when are they going to decline me? Anyway, I'll ask them when I activate the card.

No no, that's just one reason. A small one. :-D

Then you need to be de-confused as soon as possible. There are two kinds of credit cards from AmEx. The more traditional is the pay it off each month type. There is a credit limit, but it is typically much higher than a normal credit card. YMMV. If you have a Gold American Express, this is the plan you have. How does AmEx make $$ (as well as the other credit card companies)? First, they take 3-5% of each transaction from the merchant. Why would they do this? Because studies have shown again and again that people's spending habits go up way past 4% if you take a credit card. This part of the $$ keeps the lights on. Interest, fees, etc. is all gravy. There is something called Blue or something like it. Typical credit card. Can carry a balance month to month, etc. Now, Link, *listen* to the comments about gold diggers. There are multiple people I know who have been REEMED by people like this. Before the few women jump all over me - I've seen guys do it to - so it goes both ways. I guess the same warning goes for all of the other single geek guys out there.. :)

Yes, there are lots of greedy women, gold diggers as referred to above. But actually WANTING to find a gold-digger and impress her is like a woman wanting a man to beat her. You'll be miserable pretty fast.

Yup, you can enjoy the joy and benefit and experience of my 2nd Ex. When we divorced, the credit card debt alone (and other revolving credit) was split 50/50 to 21,000 each. Add that a car and a house, we allocated debt to match our combined salary, as I earned more, we bought more than I earned until the monthly payment matched what I earned. At 100,000 combined salary the two of us lived paycheck to paycheck barely meeting minimum payments for everything. I had to work overtime for anything else beyond standard budget (or if something went wrong). Anytime something did go wrong, it was my fault for not making enough money, and I was ordered to work more overtime to make up for it. Pretty soon I was working overtime to pay the bills and having to work more overtime for emergencies. Enjoy!

Well, it's not the first time I have a credit card, so I know how do use them. The reason I applied the AmEx Gold Card is it will make me look good in restaurants. The Gold Card makes me look like a man, now I need a bimmer.

Man you really don't put much of your brain to use... If *you* can get a gold card, what makes you think that makes you special. It just means they've found another sucker who's going to run up his card the every month and then be "shocked" when they find out they have to pay the whole thing off at the end of the month. If you're sole purpose was to get a Amex card to "look good in a restaurant", "look like a man", and "impress women", you're nothing but an idiot. I'm gonna laugh my ass off when you post your first woe-is-me message about your Amex bill.
