So I have to like every piece of software in the world just cause I did not write it? Please.

Amen. I've lived a long time without needing a sidebar, it's not changed.

First, I did not say it. Second, it was just a suggestion...

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.(John 3:16) :badger:I find the notion of sidebars really weird. My work computer has a wide screen LCD, so a sidebar could fit without disrupting my work flow. At home, however, I have a standard aspect ratio monitor and a sidebar would either be extremely disruptive or, if I was actually doing anything on my computer, covered up. (Besides, for the life of me, I can't figure out what I'd actually put on one.)

I use a whole separate computer with dual monitors for sidebar stuff. ;P Marc

I used to be the same, thinking "how on earth can extra clutter be useful to me?" Then I got dual 24" monitors, and decided to give the Vista sidebar a try instead of turning it off straight after installation. After adding a BBC Radio player into it I now love it - the first thing I do every morning is turn the radio on by clicking the play button. I also have the default round clock, and a gadget that shows a random photo from flickr with the current date in it. It is great for simple one-use things that don't justify having an entire application of their own.

I went back to Google's sidebar because I had grown accustomed to it in XP. I was disappointed with the built-in news headlines gadget. It only shows stuff from MSN! What good is that?

You can change it. I have mine pointed to the CP Lounge RSS feed. Do a little 'exploring'. You'll figure out how to change it.

I just plonk any useful things on there via the Toolbars and http://, and I also get to see at least twice as many processes on my task bar. Way better! Thought when I do get Vista, I will most likely use it's funky side bar, so long as I can put a window list on there. - Phil

I've been doing this for years, and it's one of the first thing i configure on a new system. I also have that Google thing installed, but it's not visible. Don't have that much screen space to waste...

Never mind if that simple one-use thing is actually worth having. ;)

Most are quite well made but for the life of me I have never found a widget that I really need. Even on Mac OS X with its dashboard widgets I only have two in use; the calendar and the WiFi finder.

Well if I was being mean, I could say that I have three... but the third is connected to a different computer. For once, less actually is better. ;P
