Hi, I assume many of you tested Vista by now. I did this too, but now as my trial period has expired I'm not able to access the data on my Vista partition. I've installed it side by side to by Win XP and I thought I'll just use it till it expires. But I have several things (files, mails) on my Vista partition and cannot access them from XP ("Access denied"). The strange thing is that I can access everything under "Program Files" but nothing under "Documents and Settings". Any ideas? Robert

By the sounds of it you need to use Adminisrator powers to take ownership of the directory and reset the access rights so you can read them... Windows sets each persons 'home' in Doc-N-Sets to only be accessable by the administrator for that windows install and the user who it belongs too.

You must use an administrator account and take ownership of the protected files. Make sure you are using XP Pro or Media Center and turn off simple file sharing in the folder options. You will be able to right click on a set of files or folders and click properties. In the properties dialog you will see the security tab and that is where you can take ownership.

Documents and Settings is a symbolic link. Do not use it! Instead go to [X]:\Users\ to get what you want. Mike

Alternatively, you can boot into Vista and when you get the prompt that asks you how you want to buy the product, pick buy online. That will run IE. Once that's open, you can enter "C:\users" into the address bar and get a regular Explorer window.
