    Why so?

Well we dont grow up with the idea of firearms being common in our community and I find the general US attitude towrads guns very foreign.

Can't you purchase firearms legally in Australia? Even for sporting purposes

Yes and no. As far as I know you can have a shotgun (but not one that re-loads itself automatically) but there are very strict rules about where you can keep it etc. If you live in a city you have to be a member of a gun club and usually the guns are stored there. Gun owneship is not seen as a basic right here.

Are your people so stupid and helpless that they need to be controlled that strictly? I certainly don't think treating grown adults like children is going to solve any problems. It just kills me the way people are treated, the worst thing is that when you treat people like stupid sheep they tend to act like stupid sheep. Freedom is an absolute must and it must not be taken away, I can never stress this enough.

That seems a bit presumptuous. I don't believe we know enough at this point to draw any conclusions as to the motivation. It may turn out that his motivations were similar to those Hamas, or it may not.

My bet is "the voices in my head told me to do it". If that is the case, would the owner of the "voice" make any difference? :~

Dunblane is one reason why gun control is important.

We're not stupid enough to fail to see that the reason we have almost no mass killings and school shootings, is because our society is not full of guns.

Are you sure that is the reason there are no mass murders? Perhaps it is the people them selves who know how to control them selves. Guns do not turn people into crazy killers. I'm sure if someone wanted to kill some people that the person could use a spear or crossbow or something. There are lots of tools that could be used to kill someone. A chainsaw would provoke more fear than a gun.

Just because someone has a gun that doesn't mean that person intends on killing or robbing someone.

A lot of police forces require off duty officers to carry their weapons.

True, but with a gun, it's easier. How many people do you think you could kill with a spear ? If you were at school and a guy went mental with a spear, what would you do ? How about a gun ? In the former case, I'd grab a chair and take him on. In the latter case, probably not.

If guns are illegal, then it means exactly that. In a society with lots of guns, it only takes one bad moment, and the opportunity is there to act on it. I wonder how many people here have a bad day, and get over it ? I wonder how many mass killers in the US, would just get over it, if they didn't have access to a gun ?

So if a Muslim commits a crime for which Fox news doesnt state a motive, it must be Jihad related and its because of those bloody lefties in the media that they wont publish the motive? Talk about damned if you do damned if you dont. And your solution is to carry a gun? Its no wonder people laugh at the paranoia in the US

A family friend, who didn't want to be identified, told us Talovic's upbringing may have played a role. He was a Muslim-Bosnian, born in war-torn Bosnia. Talovic has lived in Utah for the past several years. He dropped out of high school in 2004.[^]

In 3 weeks I will make my 5th US visit. No, you don't all carry guns. But, there's a lot of guns out there, compared to Australia. And a lot more shootings, too.
