Two days back i bought PC,and I have Sony DVD Driver. When i put DVD movie and i run it in Windows Media Player, but it shows only video..no audio.I dont know why the problem...But i have Some collection songs in DVD,but it works correctly. What abt this Movie DVD?when i check the files...It shows two Files as AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS. In this VIDEO_TS has lots of files inside like VIDEO_0_1 etc.,....But AUDIO_TS shows empty folder. It did not have single file.Whats the problem? Problem in my PC or Problem in DVD? I got the DVD from DVD rent shop. P.S:- I dont know whether it is a right forum to ask this questions.IF any other forum tell me..

Audio from DVD movies use a different codec than a collection of songs (mp3? wma?) on DVD media. Did you try a different DVD movie to make sure it's not the first disc being faulty? Also, you said you have a Sony DVD Driver. I wasn't aware that Sony publishes a software DVD decoder (which is what I'm assuming you mean), do you mean to say that it's a Sony system with a DVD decoder? If so, which one? There are four main ones that work with Windows Media Player: Intervideo, Sonic, Cyberlink and NVidia. Also you didn't mention which OS you're using, Windows XP or Windows Vista? I can't speak for certain on Vista but I know that on Windows XP there's an issue where when you have multiple DVD decoders you can run into issues in DShow, and the workaround has always been "uninstall the DVD decoders that you don't use, leaving the one that you do on the system".

You need to have the correct codecs for DVD audio. Eg. MP3 codecs are standard and will run, but DVD (movie) audio is not standard. Try installing a DVD player and open up the movie in media player. It will probably work :-). good luck.

There is no problem there, as for a normal DVD 'movie', the AUDIO_TS folder is supposed to be there and is supposed to be empty. As suggested, you probably have codec problems, and you could need a newer player and/or codecs. The newest version of Windows Media Player 11[[^](http://Windows Media Player 11)] should work just fine for you, and it's really pretty.

You do know that "video" means "visual" plus "audio", right? The sound information is in the "video" files, as it should be. Your media player is screwed up. Windows Media Player isn't so good with DVDs, you should use something specifically designed for watching DVDs, like Intervideo WinDVD, which works great on all of mine.

Media player likes to be connected to the internet to load all codecs, and seems to reload them all the time. I believe you were not on the internet for media player to download the correct codec. If not, then I don't know.... Maybe the media player selected an audio channel (on the DVD) that's empty... try switching to the Stereo channel if there is one. Note: AC3 codec is needed to play most DVD's. You can download it, however I'm not sure if it's 100% legal. That codec always comes with bought DVD player applications. If all that fails, I suggest downloading the free application linked in one of the other replies.
