Anyone know of a good download manager you can recommend? I've just finished downloading The Orcas March CTP from Microsoft Dwnloads. This version has nine parts to it (and nine Download buttons) It's a pain in the neck to have to keeo checking back to see if the next part is ready to download. Which got me thinking about download managers. I've never used them, because most files I download are singles. But it would sure be nice to copy the links in a set of Microsoft Download buttons to a list and have an app download all the files in batch mode, particularly late at night when there's more bandwidth available. So, does such a critter (sorry, I just got back from Arizona) exist? Thanks.

FlashGet can be configured to download one file at a time from your queue, and as many streams as you'd like. Two things however: 1.When I used it last time there were two versions available. Paid and free one. Paid was as good as any other piece of software, free one was ad supported, i.e. you would see a banner at the top of app which will be dynamically pulled from the web (at one point it was even called spyware becaus of the ads used). So that may be a concern. Wiki however, states that current version is free and does not have any ads (maybe they decided it was not profitable and released free version with no ads, don't know). 2.Don't know about MS, but many sites block download managers, you you may be SOL.

Try this one: http://www.freedownloadmanager.org/[^] It's a rather simple tool, but does what it should and I'm very happy with it.

I haven't used it in some time, but GetRight was always the one to use back in the day if it's still around and up to date.

Watch out for bundleware. Many of those "free" ones usually come with hidden crap.

I'll second the DownThemAll Firefox extension *and* wget - I've used both at various times.
