I would also check out if their warranty clause permits this... :)

Nah, I've never cared about warranty when it comes to computers. :)

You would, if your hard disk crashed on you within a week :( happened to me, after I spent _two_ days installing and getting it to work just right...

Up to this point, of all the desktop computers I've owned, they were all assembled by myself. But these days, I'm too busy (and lazy) to do this right now. I'm thinking of buying a HP desktop, not to mention I have HP credit account. My question is, can I switch out the video card they comes with, and put a off-the-shelf retail GeForce 8800 card in? Or any other future cards in? (assuming they are still 16X PCIx) Unless they have special BIOS-lockout like the Macs does... Anyone? Thanks.

Yeah me too, over the last year or so I've bought 2 HP models and been very happy with them. Off the top of my head I don't think the BIOS has a lockout, so you should be able to disable the onboard one

If you're too lazy to build your own, or even do the slightest bit of research, why should we put any time into a decent answer to your question?

They may have a Link2006 lockout... I think you should still build your own machine. that way, you can put it together when you have the energy to move off the couch, or if your latest stalking victim is beyond direct visual contact. Assembly hint: Don't let any part of the Cheesy Poofs fall out of your gaping maul and into the computer.

I bought an HP M370n media center and replaced the hard drive twice within a year (warranty service!!). I started using Speed Fan and the HDs quit dying so I believe it is due to bad case design and a bad fan controller since it never seemed to speed up when it got hot and there is only one fan blowing into the case and that is going straight onto the heat sink. Ill never buy another HP...

I've made it my personal mission in life to denigrate and insult Link2006 whenever possible. When you're as old as I am, you have to get your fun where you can find it. Besides, it's only a matter of time before he tells us about another female that isn't aware that he loves her.

I'm thinking of buying the workstation desktop, not the average "Home" desktop. The case design should be a bit better, hopefully.
