You joke but it is sadly true. Like when tourists climb fences into lion enclosures and are attacked. They don't shoot the stupid tourists, the shoot the lions. WTF?

Sadly true is right. It's been a peeve of mine for a long time. Around here, it's people that choose to live where mountain lions live and then want them destroyed because they let their kid play in the "woods out back" and they get mauled. I'm still waiting for Shamu, the Orca at Sea World, to grab a trainer or tourist and flip him/her around like a tasty seal snack. WTF is right. Cheers, Mark

Why Knut, is that a German name? It is a common name in Scandinavia.

It's not a uncommon name in Germany, but has been out of style.

I'm guessing they picked it because you can find polar bears in Norway, so it's fitting that way.

Yeah - very Cute - but didnt someone want it put down since having it reared by humans at a zoo was supposedly 'un-natural' ? (I know who I'd like to put down ... ) 'g'

:) Well, it has happened, and if you count Svalbard as part of Norway it certainly is true.

Polar bears have actually made it all the way to main land?

Yes, indeed. In 1958 they had at least one polar bear in Tromsø, very much alive.
