Living and Working in Canada
-
From the point of view of emigrating from the UK, does anybody have any experience of living and working in Canada? The reason I ask is that the UK based company I work for is currently looking for people to work in the office we have in Edmonton. As neither my wife or I have any strong family ties to the UK I am considering the opportunity. However, I also have 2 young children (3 & 1.5) so they obviously have to be considered.

Given that CP resides in Canada, the probability is near 100%.

Edmonton is located out west in the province of Alberta. Due to the existence of large oil and gas reserves in Alberta, this area of the country is in the middle of rapid growth. There are lots of jobs and opportunities available. Since you are describing a re-location within your company, I'd expect that the company should be able to provide you with some good information concerning re-location expenses, new housing costs, access to schools, medical care, etc. Expect some cold winter weather though, but this is balanced by very enjoyable hot and dry summer weather. You'll also have great access to outdoor recreation such as camping, skiing, etc. You'd be in the foothills of the Rockies and things are pretty majestic to say the least. Good luck with it. :)

I hope you favorite weather conditions are "snow" and "too cold to snow".

yep. The maximum amount of moisture the air can hold drops rapidly as temperature decreases. You only really get heavy snow when it's slightly below freezing. By -15 or -20C the air can't hold enough to do anything more than drop a few flurries.
