Tomorrow I forgot my brand new E50 mobile phone in the auto rickshaw(kinda cabs in India) . After Half an hour I realized that i was without my treasured possession. I tried to call to my mobile number from friend's cell but of no use. The cell was already switched off. I thought that driver must have removed the Sim Card and will enjoy this evening after selling my mobile to some local mobile's shopkeeper. I got my outgoing call barred as I got a postpaid connection. while I was planning to go to cops for reporting that, i tried again at my mobile no. with not much hope. This time call was connecting, ring was there.. At the other end that driver received it. He told me that he has my mobile and I requested him to return it. But he denied , he said its your fault that you left it in my rickshaw so, now its mine. then he switched off the mobile again. I thought I have lost it forever. Then after some time , after trying hundreds of time again my mobile was ringing. I talked to him, tried to convince him , that if he will return my mobile to me I will give him some Bucks. I told him that i ll give him Rs 1000. He thought for some time then he demanded for Rs 1500(about $150). I said Ok...Just return my mobile.. He called me to some empty street. he instructed me to come alone. I was there on time. I called him.. he said he'll be there in some time. after about 15 minutes he came there, walking towards me without his rickshaw so that i can't trace him with his rickshaw number. He directly asked for the money, I said first give my mobile back, he said give me money then only you can get your cell back. As i had no choice i gave him full Rs 1500. He put that into his pocket and from his back pocket he pulled my mobile out and gave it to me and told me to get out of there quickly. I did that and after reaching to main road. I thanked God that finally I got my mobile back. Later I thought.. I should or should not inform cops about that before meeting him at that place....:doh::sigh::sigh::doh::doh:

Where did this incident happen? which city? If you are a localite then no harm in approaching police. I have done so in a similar case in Pune, India and am still OK :-D. Btw.. Rs 1500 ~ $35

He could have done that easily. I guess he was more concerned about getting the mobile back rather than taking a risk of losing it.

I'd have tried to take a cop with me to the meeting point. But I don't know how reliable and flexible indian cops are... X|

For somebody in the first world, you have a very accurate perception of the Indian police system.

INR 1500 ~ $30;P similar incident happened with me too but at that time i was using such a cheap phone (he cant sell it or its battery or other part (it was a low end Reliance Mobile)) he first switched it off and didn't switch on it for next two days (possible he was trying to sell it) then on third day he picked up the phone and told me to meet in a Dhaba(local hotel) and returned it there :) Regards Amar Chaudhary
