I just got back from spending the week in Yellowstone national park. All I have to say is WOW, what an amazing experience. If you ever get a chance to get out there take it you wont regret it. :-D Just remember to take a camera with you everwhere you just never know when an Elk or Bear will show up. Oh yea and bring sun tan lotion, I even got a little sun burn (I've never once burned, how do you fair skinned poeple handle this ) Did I miss anything interesting around here?

Did they have any part of the park off-limits due to volcanic activity? There is a giant super-volcano brewing underneath Yellowstone, and I've read that parts of the ground are too hot to walk on. Did you see any geysers?

Where in MN? I grew up in eastern SD close to Lake Benton on the border. So I understand the wildlife thing. I grew up in a town where Laura Ingalls Wilder used to live and we put on a play of the books each summer. We had tons of kids who got excited over the horses and even the cows. Kind of sad. ND is quite friendly. Never been to MT. I think once you get outside the cities though most MNians are nice. SDians like to make fun of MN drivers but after living this close to Nebraska, I don't mind the MNians anymore. I find the deer sillouette on the deer-crossing signs funny. They look so majestic on their back feet. They should have something that looks more life-like such as that dumbfounded face heading towards the grill of a car.

Funny enough, I didn’t see a Cow up close until I was an adult. However, Deer and most wild life are everwhere as long as your willing to stop and look. I was chatting with someone from Ontario, and she commented on how clean Minnesota is. Well that true, but driving along I94 through North Dakota, I think they have legions of people laying in wait in the bushes along the freeway because WOW I don’t think I saw but two pieces of litter the whole trip. People are friendlier out of the cities, but like everything you have to travel further and further to find those folks. Shrugs, maybe its time I think about a move. Leckey I think you’re on to something with the change to the Deer crossing signs, think you can come up with something similar for bike trails? The Deer have most pedestrians beat by hundreds of IQ points.

Well if the pacific isn’t an Ocean anymore I cant imagine any of the Oceans would meet the requirement. I wonder what that would spell for the 10,000 puddles of water here in Minnesota; they finally get a real name like leftovers from a sippy cup spill?

Oh yeah, and the mall people. Those families that need to walk elbow to elbow as if they are playing Red Rover in the third grade. The others are those who cannot walk a straight line so you have to keep zig-zagging to get around them. I either feel the need to yell, 'Feel free to look!' or 'Stay in School!'

Not really, they don’t let you walk directly on the Geysers, but you can get fairly close (and even then you can feel the heat from them)

Yea your right and I guess the southern portion of the park (down by the lake) changes elevation as result of the activity under it (not that walking on it would you notice, took the park service years to notice I guess).

Well in the geyser basins and Sulfur holes you aren’t aloud to walk about freely because the ground can be unstable and brittle; things change too much to keep track of all of the holes I guess. I didn’t think to get a picture of it but in one of the parking lot around “Sulfur Caldron” the pavement gave way and there is now a sulfur hole in the middle of the parking lot (they do have it blocked off). Woot.

I did take some pictures, but with a cheap camera. Not sure how they will turn out and well I’m no Paul Watson. Your better off just going there is way too much to fit into a simple picture. (But if yea like when I get the film developed I put them up on flickr and send yea a link).

I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are teams of scientists there studying well everything. Bacteria clearly live just outside of the sulfur holes (which is just amazing)
