And someone has to nominate you. Once you get nominated MS will pay more attention to you. They will ask for area where you are active and watch them. After a two month period you get awarded, or not. (At least that's how the MVP-Leads in the UK seem to work)

Upcoming events: * Glasgow: Mock Objects, SQL Server CLR Integration, Reporting Services, db4o, Dependency Injection with Spring ... "I wouldn't say boo to a goose. I'm not a coward, I just realise that it would be largely pointless." Ready to Give up - Your help will be much appreciated. My website

It's an arcane art, but it usually involves coin tossing.

Then noone would have MVP status for who can defeat the almighty Chuck?

I think I'm going to call my next project "Chuck Norris". It's a sure way to guarantee it's unbreakable.

But fortunately we have the nanny-state politicians who can step in to protect us poor stupid consumers, most of whom would not know a JVM from a frozen chicken. Bruce Pierson

Mmh, yes, ok, I misunderstood MVP status with Membership status. To be a MVP here, you must be helpful, patient, skillful, but lucky as well, since only people that vote for you bring you point for the MVP status. Too bad if you help people that are not grateful.

I have taken to giving the short answer because of this. Since the nature of a lot of programming questions are from relatively inexperienced people I used to go to great lengths to explain my answer to their question. My efforts were invariably met with silence from the person X| so I started giving a terse answer and only elaborate if the person responds asking for more detail. :sigh: Even when the person responds asking for me to explain I have found that my explanation usually goes unrated. X| I always respond to anyone giving me an answer on a programming forum even if saying nothing else than thanks for the response or thanks for the link. It is only common courtesy to respond to anyone who has made an effort to help you. :) If the person gave me useful information I always rate their response with a 5 vote so they know that the information was useful to me and to thank them for helping. :-D I do not give low votes to responses that did not help me because the person was at least trying to help and as stated above I do reply with a thanks for the attempt even if the information didn't help solve my problem. :)
