CP as Third place? [modified]

I am sure that allot of us read or RSS Hanselman's website and probably have already seen or read this article[^] on the concept of third place. What I am curious about is how many of the users here feel that CP acts as a sort of online third place? Aaron -- modified at 9:53 Thursday 26th July, 2007

I prefer to think of this as my first place - even when I'm at home, I'm here. Now how's that for Zen?
Deja View - the feeling that you've seen this post before.

That article's changed a lot about how I think socially...I won't go about searching for a third place now, but I think CodeProject is certainly a Third Place of what I do online. I come home, I play games or go online, I do my usual amateur development thing, and on certain nights I go to my real Third Place - the Church. TBH I see CodeProject as being a place to get banter or some programming-based talk, because I figure that people need people to talk to about what they want to. If I mention programming or dance music to any of my friends then I get funny looks. It's always good to get to somewhere, and talk to like-minded people. Not, that I'm saying anything bad about CodeProject. It even reminds me of Church - granted that it doesn't have 4.3 million members (it has almost 90) but the minister basically knows us all on first name terms. I went there for a month and found myself knee-deep in the annual pantomime. Now I'm so involved that I feel lost without being there. So to prevent an emotional spillage, and to sum up - CodeProject is a part of the online Third Place for me anyway, and I'd expect for most as well - we're all programmers. And the Church is just supportive (no, I'm not being paid to say this).
