A friend recently moved there and got a dev job, so that makes 3,000,001....

From a population of 60 million? Seems a tad unlikely. Where did you get this number from?

Unfortunately I simply don't know, maybe something that's been in discussion or i've read it in an article about encouraging s/devs to be part of the IT industry.

A friend of mine moved out of UK so that resets the count back to 3,000,000:-D

Hmm: The total number of people in work in the UK is, according to the lying bastards who givern us, is around 29 million. National Statistics Online[^]. That would mean about 29/3 = 9.6ish. So, 1 in 10 workers is a software developer? I'd have believed 1 in 10,000, maybe.
