What is a neat way to sync my notebook with my desktop? Source code is alright, as I just commit my days work from my desktop and update my notebook from the main repo, but I would also particularly like to sync my two instances of Outlook. Contacts and calendar is easy using my phone as intermediary, but mail is just too much.

I actually wrote a small tool to do this once... It was basically a small dialog with 2 buttons on it, marked "laptop" and "desktop". You just set up the locations of files/folders on each machine, then clicked the appropriate button to sync your stuff to the required target. It even did automatic backups on the target machine, and could optionally "hide" (rename) files on the inactive machine, so that you couldn't accidentally receive email into the wrong instance of Outlook. I never quite finished it, but perhaps I ought to look into it again. (IIRC, there were some issues with the initial sync after adding a new location, that could cause the application to become confused about the active machine. Once the first sync was performed, everything was fine, but the first sync was a little too hit-and-miss for an unsuspecting user!) If there's a real need for something like this, I'll reopen the project and post it as an article...

          Briefcase, perhaps?
