Anyone here live in Northern Ireland?

Particularly County Antrim, have an interest in visiting that area to see Dunluce Castle. And if you happen to be a history buff, I'd be interested to know if there's much in the way of history for that region before the castle was built, particularly around 1100 AD, give or take a century. Was also curious as to how much programming work is around, how hard it is for foreigners to stick around & work for a while, what the cost of living is like, whether or not the locals hate Americans (a popular pastime these days), etc. Chistopher Duncan Author - The Career Programmer: Guerilla Tactics for an Imperfect World (Apress)

Ray Kinsella and Brian Delahunty are the only regulars I know that live in Ireland. Michael Martin Australia mjm68@tpg.com.au "In Summer, I like to dance naked on the roof to celebrate the event of the temperature finally falling below 40C (usually about midnight). But the neighbors have lately taken up the habit of staying up late. And looking up, at times, from their dreary, pointless lives..." - Roger Wright 15/05/2002

I live in Belfast, Co. Antrim, Christopher Duncan wrote: how much programming work is around The area has been hit by the downturn same as everyone else, the company I work for advertised 2 positions and got 100 applications. The market isn't great, but it still seems to be quite bouyant for people with ALOT of expierence. Christopher Duncan wrote: how hard it is for foreigners to stick around & work for a while Northern Ireland, is part of the UK, you need to apply to the British embassy wherever you are. I don't think you would have any major problems getting a two year work and study visa, its the standard type in the EU, you can work a year and study a year, and then you get deported :) . There is no work up there, you would need to stick to the main population centres. Regards Ray "Je Suis Mort De Rire"

I'm from Killaloo, a place outside Londonderry, but study/work in Manchester. There is no decent computer work of any description in the Northwest, but living costs are low (compared to Manchester) and the people are friendly. Also there is the Bushmills distillery near Coleraine :) -Brian

If you cross the border into Letterkenny, Donegal, Sligo and Mayo. There seems to be a bit floating around that part of the world. Regards Ray "Je Suis Mort De Rire"

Ray Kinsella wrote: but we are too busy hating each other, to hate anyone else. Yeah, pretty much the same everywhere, I suspect. Who knows, by the time I get the bucks & available time to come out for a visit, the market may have returned to normal. And yeah, I'd need to stick to the population centers for sure. I'm a techie and a city boy. Left to my own devices in the wild, I'd be dead in 3 days... Thanks, man! An extremely kind offer, thank you, Ray! Although with my schedule and work load, heaven only knows when I'll be able to take a vacation (a rare creature in these parts). By the way, always mean to ask and never remember - Ray Kinsella wrote: "Je Suis Mort De Rire" What language is that, and what's the English translation? What language is that, and what's the English translation? French. "I am dying of laughter" or something to that effect. View the following link for a French-English dictionary: http://humanities.uchicago.edu/forms\_unrest/FR-ENG.html
