I'll admit that emusic isn't for everyone. I'll also admit that 90% of everything is crap, even on emusic. I will not admit that Ray Charles and Louis Armstrong, for example, haven't suffered enough in their lives to have anything interesting to say. I will not admit that the songs of John Hiatt are not well-crafted with interesting lyrics. I joined almost a year ago, and I've downloaded some of the best music in my collection. Music I wanted for years, but couldn't afford it new, couldn't find it used, and wasn't available from my music club. For me, it's been more than worthwhile.
Or Gary Numann or the soundtrack to Hedwig and the Angry Inch or their great collection of obscure 70's funk, lot's of other stuff I downloaded from Emusic on a free trial, but once you get past the obvious stuff you like you're faced with a hell of a lot of bands you never heard of and when I sampled their stuff from the top 100 list or whatever I just couldn't get into it. The problem with Emusic is you have to subscribe, I'd rather just go and buy songs on demand when I want them one by one. Let's face it the whole scenario sucks right now, you and I both know that there should be one or more sites that contain the entire history of recorded music that you can purchase or subscribe to. This whole breaking up into different sites and different labels and neglect of the rest of the world outside the U.S. is just a mess all around. I'd like to see artists just sell their music directly to the end user to be honest.

Hear, hear, and Amen. I especially like that bit about the entire history of recorded music should be available on-line. I've never looked through emusic's top 100. I started by searching for every band on my Amazon wish list. After I downloaded all that, emusic was able to make helpful suggestions. My Save For Later list is pretty long, so it will be a while before I run out of things I want to download. I've also tried SpiralFrog.com recently. They have a much different selection than emusic. Their songs are free, but are DRM wma files. To download an album, you have to babysit the downloader and click the button for each song. But hey, free music. I got a couple of Weezer records of various colors.

The buying of mp3s is a mystery to me. Until it costs a lot less than buying a CD, I'd rather have a physical object, with artwork, etc.

I had an interesting experience with iTunes. I won a free iTune song from one of those McDonalds Online games, so after receiving the code, I followed the directions and entered all my personal info to setup an account. I entered the gift code and the website insisted that I needed to download the newest version of iTunes first. I did, and then the code wouldn't work! Now here is the cool part, I emailed McDonalds and they sent me another code, which worked and then a few weeks later they sent me a second code from another music download service. (I never heard of it and I didn't have to sign up/give any personal info or download a player!) They insisted that I use both, so I did. I got one MP3 and one iTune. Let's just say I don't listen to the either, I'd rather listen to my hard earned CD collections while I code/surf/whatever. Plus I'm running out of disk space, again! Where would I put it? On my iPod? ROFL:wtf: Maybe you'll let me barrow yours?

Totally disagreed. Most music does suck, but there's a ton of awesome glam and metal bands, and it's very rare for them to have only one or two good songs, more like one or two that are not as good as the others.

Actually, CD packaging is getting cooler and cooler, I've noticed. I do think LPs allowed for better covers, but there's still some excellent booklets and other packaging going on, to combat piracy, I presume.
