So I'm using some voice recognition software (testing it for a company) and whenever it hears my name "Rex" it outputs the text "Rick" instead. I've emailed the support team and notified them of the quirk. I went on to explain that I don't feel like a "Rick" so I said I would have to lift some weights and go buy a Corvette so that I could manage the identity crisis a bit better. This humor of course made me wonder how many people on CP I could distract into telling me what there stereotype of "Rick" would be. So when you think of "Rick" picture him pulling up to meet you for lunch at a restaurant. - What car/motorcycle/unicycle/etc... would he drive? - Thinning hair? Full head of hair? Long hair? - Sunglasses? - Overweight? You get the idea. What's your perception of Rick? I need to know so that I can resolve my own identity crisis as I have to live with being Rick from now on.:-D

I know a couple Ricks. They are relatively thin, smart, and good humored. Marc

I have a similar problem; for some reason (probably the way I speak) many people hear my name (Jamie) as (Jeremy). I have a very different view of what a Jeremy looks like than a Jamie. I thought I was alone in this weirdness. Looks like im not. Thanks Rick Rex.

They're all Brandon's here. On average there were at least 3 Brandon's in each of my classes coming up through school. Not all blatantly Brandon, but Brannon, Brendan, Brendon, Branden, Brennen. It was always a happy day when someone got your spelling of Brandon right...

Rick drives a ferrari, not a new one but a used one. No one really knows they just assume he is wealthy but the crippling payments for the $45k, circa 80's model Ferrari gives him the confidence to drive around with his long brown hair ... well its not his, the hair club for men helped him out, again no one but him knows. Short in stature and self esteem he is slender for no other reason then that his build The dark sunglasses hide his eyes, bloodshot from the late nights, cheap alcohol and frequent cigarette breaks. Looking at his hands there is a sharp tan line on the left ring finger.

Rick is a middle aged, slightly overweight, no one. He never did anything of value, but never upset anyone, balding hair, lonely, drives a yugo when it actually goes. He never does get it fully fixed because the car maintenance workers like the extra income, and he accepts it. He orders sandwhiches with mayo, and gets mustard but never takes it back, only accepts it and eats it anyway. Think balding middle aged version of "chuck" from the beginning of Night Shift. don't you feel better now? ;P

I have tested voice recognition software in the past and I am not sure they can do any thing to fix or even test this error being that everyones voice is different and everyone will have a different training file. There are a lot of factors that come into play here. The most important is how clearly you spoke (especially during training) and how long you spent with the training part. I have found out that in order to get decent results you have to train your voice to talk to the software and then no matter what the companies say small and most used words ( a an the ...) are a crap shoot at best and longer less said words are usually easy for the software to recognize.

As our infamous joke goes.... setting up voice recognition here is just bad news.... operator: "Hey Fred lets go to lunch." computer: "preparing to launch."
