I am not bored. I am concerned with my lack of productivity today (and on such other 'lazy' days). I want to read a book or play some games right now, I just feel bad with it. I should be working...

    Kind regards, Pawel Krakowiak

I am lazy today too, but I have to do a VAT return, and as it is the last day of the month, I cannot put it off:( But I just want to doze and sup cocoa:) Still it will soon be the weekend! (My God, it is only Wednesday and I am thinking of the Weekend!)

I just can't get anything done today. I spent the last few hours redesigning my application's architecture, but at the same time switching to forums and even IMing with a friend for a while. Tomorrow is a holiday in Poland and I'm taking a leave on Friday, this gives me a 4 day weekend this week (yay!). I already feel it's weekend today and can't focus at work at all. I finished working yesterday just before 10PM, though... What do you do when you have such a lazy day? Do you force yourself to work? I finished implementation of one new feature today and started to redesign my business layer (because I did a terrible job before :-O ), but just can't get to it. In spite of my clock showing 4PM I decided to call it a day. :|

Consider yourself lucky to have the luxury of checking the forums and IMing. I'm stuck in a place where they are so paranoid I don't even dare open a browser. Luckily I have a smartphone and can see the outside world occasionally.

stockpile up mindless tedium tasks that take just as long to do with your brain on vacation and then purge the stack when something like this happens.

It's been my experience that my lulls in productivity often occur when I'm dealing with issues like the above. It seems most programmers are loath to tear apart something that works in order to rebuild it.. it's like fear of the unknown. You don't want to be hours into a redesign or a rewrite and find out what you tore up won't work. Sure you can re-load from source control, but that's not the point. Anytime I need to write or rewrite something I know is hacky, I find myself unable to focus on the task. So usually what I try to do is force myself to work on 2 or 3 small aspects of it, usually leaving them unfinished, so that nothing works. That then puts me in the position of needing to fix it, which is much easier work to focus on. Not that this always works, mind you.. And yeah, there are days when no matter how much I want to work on something, I just can't focus. I think it's a symptom of burnout.

Then just do some paperwork or/and clean up your desk from all those documents that lay around... As you know we don't do that often. Like this you won't feel losing time and perhaps after 2 hours of updating/reorganising your documents, cleaning up the place you'll find yourself more motivated to do some real conceptual work... Enjoy your long week-end :)

Delivered my VAT cheque this afternoon, so feeling kind of smug.
