100 months left

We have about 100 months left. If global greenhouse gas emissions have not begun to decline by the end of 2015, then our chances of restraining climate change to within the two degrees "safety line" - the level of warming below which the impacts are severe but tolerable - diminish day by day thereafter. http://www.newstatesman.com/200711080026[^]

Oh No: quick man the lifeboats, we've been officially panicked. What specious nonsense: yes of course we only have 100 months or the earth will explode and we'll all get baked. Duh: stoopid. Whatever the rights and wrongs of GW I do wonder at the integrity of journals that allow this type of fear-reporting. Oh wait, it's the New Statesman: asked and answered. In any case, like we can actually do anything about it without giving up all technology, killing several billion people and returning to a mind-numbingly boring agrarian existence.

I thought the world was due to end 23rd December 2012 anyway?
"On one of my cards it said I had to find temperatures lower than -8. The numbers I uncovered were -6 and -7 so I thought I had won, and so did the woman in the shop. But when she scanned the card the machine said I hadn't. "I phoned Camelot and they fobbed me off with some story that -6 is higher - not lower - than -8 but I'm not having it." Tina Farrell, a 23 year old thicky from Levenshulme, Manchester.

Ha ha, what arrogance. Dont worry, nothings going to happen, it was 2.5 degrees warmer during the holocene maximum ending around 2k BC. (Greenland ice core data)
Truth is the subjection of reality to an individuals perception

Worst case scenario, a few million people die (mostly annoyed to death by repeatedly being told the sky is falling) and those left will be much better off (though they won't deserve it having annoyed millions to death by repeatedly telling everyone the sky is falling and pushing crappy cars on the masses). But I'd suspect a more reasonable outcome. In a few years when we notice nothing has happened, all the alarmist will say "see, wiping our asses with a single square of TP like Sheryl Crow said really did save the world", or science will find the true and natural cause for this temporary warming and we'll better understand what happened and be better armed for the next apocalyptic alarmist fad.

Amazing how that worked out to such a nice round number.
The only conspiracies that concern me are the ones I am completely unaware of. By the time I find out about it, its probably a done deal. Nothing in the entire universe is more useless than morality without authority. A morality free of hypocrisy is no morality at all.

just got hit by a piece of falling sky.

Well the first will happen but the second is only fantasy.
I know, just trying to be optimistic. If nothing else we can still look back and say "well you were wrong last time". But that never works on them either.

We'll all be dead three years before that happens. Dec 21 2012 - the end of the Mayan calendar, and life as we know it.

"...the staggering layers of obscenity in your statement make it a work of art on so many levels." - Jason Jystad, 10/26/2001There are actually lots of cultures that have mythology centered around that date for some reason. But the Mayans didn't actually predict the end on that date, just the end of a period. In any event, I'm glad I have a chance to live long enough to see if anything happens. I had fun on 6/6/06 listening to people claiming the end was near. Or 1/1/2000. I wonder if there was a Y1k problem for Cobol programmers to worry about...

From personal experience: No.
