I'm pretty much an atheist but that's not got much to do with hating Christmas music - I hate both Christian and 'Santa' Christmas music equally and right up to Christmas Day itself. I'm not a big fan of mass-celebration holidays - it all ends up being a grind to organise and a pain to buy presents for people. And that's coming from a single man from a small family, I can't imagine what it's like for people with dozens of grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, kids etc. It's just me, my sister (also childless and single), our parents, and my aunt (married but childless) who visits in mid-December (and who my sister won't see if she brings her husband due to an incident with him). My grandparents all passed away years ago (my dad's mum before I was born, even) and my mum was an only child. If you're not to disappoint the person you're buying gifts for, you end up asking them what they want and get them to write a list; then you have to discuss with everyone else who's getting what so you don't overlap. Kind of takes any fun out of it that there might be, and I hate shopping even at the best of times. It's no wonder I opted out of 'Secret Santa' at work. I may have worked with some of them for five years but that doesn't mean I know them well enough to buy gifts. So did everyone else in our office after it was split into two pools for our office and the rest of the company! Our office being 9 blokes (six developers, one boss, one technical analyst/support, one ex-developer now commissioning, testing and general admin) probably also has something to do with it.

I've always liked I Believe in Father Christmas by Greg Lake[^]. It's not particularly sentimental and is really an anti-the commercialisation-of-Christmas rant - but I've always liked the music.

Good song. It almost makes up for the numerous crimes he committed against music whilst in ELP.

At the risk of upsetting everybody (so I'll save the kid sisters out there and not provide any links) - Kevin Bloody WIlson has a couple of good ones ... Santa Claus was going to town and Hey Santa Claus you ****! Serious question, do people in other countires get to hear the same songs on radio/TV as we do in the UK this time of year, every year? I'm thinking Pogues/Kirsty McColl, Slade, Wizzard, Band Aid etc. Rich

I have to disagree. There're plenty of reasons other than being nonchristian to hate Christmas carols, but that doesn't mean that having someone elses holiday shoved in your face for 2 months strait isn't annoying.

No. There's a radio station down here in SW Florida that plays Christmas Music all year long. They call themselves the Christmas Station. No THAT's dumb!
