Poll about reading

We are doing a poll about reading to find out what languages are used in which cases. Therefore we want to find out: What do you write in your companies (letters, e-mails, memos, ...)? Who reads what you are writing? Why do you write instead of phoning or faxing messages? Have you had to learn a foreign language for work? If yes, which language and how do you learnt it? If no, what language do you speak in your company? Thanks much for your your help.

1. emails, memos are sent as emails 2. recipients of the emails, people who perform code reviews 3. because emails are documented. It is only when there is no reply to the third email that I phone and then follow up with an email. 4. I didn't but others in the company did. I already spoke it. And I did learn some Chinese when I was in China but that didn't last long. 5. Pracitce. 6. English is the official business language of the company. Arabic is the one used conversationally and in my case with a few others that have better command of it, we use English.

I write e-mails. Longer documents I create (I'm the only literate person in the group) like specifications are distributed via e-mail. My audience is the other members of my group, along with marketing, sales, service, and technical publications personnel associated with the products my group creates. I respond with a phone call if that's how the communication originated. I tend to prefer e-mail, since it gives me more time to compose my response. The only foreign language I've had to learn is how to talk to the Foo-Foo people (sales and marketing) :-D. Our primary language is English.

- Code, general emails, feasibility studies, design documents, etc 2) Other team members, managers, and members of other development teams [Not typically "client" facing development] 3) We don't have phones on our desks (we're a big open plan office) and it certainly would be daft to fax! We have plenty of face-to-face meetings too 4) We were recently bought by a French company, so we've had informal French refresher lessons to ready us if we have to visit head office, although English is still the official company language (due to it being located all over the word)
