That's what I thought too. But the December dip in previous years is not as much. So this year's dip seems to be directly related to the site upgrade. For me personally, the site's still not very responsive half the time, and I often cannot load the page (specially during US peak hours). But when it's up, it's fast. And it has been getting better the last few weeks - so I expect it to be fully back to normal functionality by February or so.

In a way, all of 2007 was a bit lower than 2006. When you change the span from 5y like Demon Possessed did, and do something like 1 month, you can see January starting to inch back up. One thing I learned in my graduate Super Visualization course, it was easy to misconstrue data with simple charts and unless Fast Fourier Transforms or Wavelet Transforms were not employed in the data analysis, crucial clues could be easily missed.

My computer at work has been unable to copy and paste texts (code snippets, URLs, etc.) on CP forums since the site upgrade in the end of last year. And only the computer at work has VC++, the one at home does not. It causes me some trouble when answering people's question requiring to post some URLs or codes nippets. ---

In my viewpoint, the main problem of the decline is that CP servers have been displaying this message very frequently these days! Sometime ago people replied me in the
Suggestions/Site Bugsforum that to refresh IE and get another WebN of CP (N = number) to solve the situation. But I found that no matter how many refreshes, it just remains the same when this situation happens (just like 10 minutes ago it happened again).-- Unable to load messages due to high load or server error. Please try again --

Now do the same for other sites, say codeguru.com; it does not show much of a holiday effect. So either usage is down or efficiency is way up (as in by providing lots of blank pages). :)

Or, 2006 might have had alot of false positives. Current number of members online is about 5,000. Before the upgrade, it seemed like it was between 10-20,000.

I'd only be worried if this was the norm after a year. Really, it's been far too short a timescale for any form of meaningful conclusions being available. Yes, there were some initial problems post the go-live of the new version of CodeProject, but they are being dealt with very rapidly and I fully expect normal service to be resumed very quickly. Revisit these stats in a year and see how they hold out.

...and? It's called holidays. Alexa is based on a toolbar add-in that, with the release of Vista, has been essentially ineffective. Take a look at all tech sites and you'll see the same trend. But who cares? I'm not trying to get Alexa rankings. I'm trying to provide something that helps people.

...and? It's called holidays. Alexa is based on a toolbar add-in that, with the release of Vista, has been essentially ineffective. Take a look at all tech sites and you'll see the same trend. But who cares? I'm not trying to get Alexa rankings. I'm trying to provide something that helps people.

What site upgrade? Transition to .NET? Well, that happened when, beginning of December? Things dont look too bad to me. P.S. I do agree that the upgrade caused a lot of missed visits to the site, but it really isnt as bad.
