So Christian, Just looking at this quote you're being threatened over: "Half the reason people switch away from VB is to find out what actually goes on.. and then like me they find out that they weren't quite as good as they thought - they've been nannied. - Alex, 13 June 2002" I dont understand why you're being threatened here. Its certainly not embaressing to Alex, he's even admiting that he is learning. This is a bad thing? Maybe he just thinks he sees a quick buck.

Well, I don't know either. But the first thing I knew about his not liking it was when he posted to the VC forum to say that as I had not answered any of his questions he wanted me to stop quoting him. I've told the rest of the story below, but the long and the short of it is that he seems to me to be a nutcase. How he thinks he can sue me for quoting him directly is beyond me. I had agreed to remove the quote, and all he had to do was ask again politely, instead he decided to try an empty threat. I'm not sure how this equates to my being willing to answer his questions in the future ( if I see any, I will respond with 'I know the answer, but if I tell you, you might sue me' ), but then, nothing he has done to date has any sort of rationale behind it that I can see. Christian, I know you feel self-important now that someone is "threatening to sue you", but please this is getting boring. We all know his case is frivolous, and he knows it too. So please, enough already. Alex is just a troll and you fell for it. No one is going to sue you, and everyone knows it. Change the topic, and stop feeding that troll.

Rama Krishna wrote: I will verify whether he is kidding or he is serious. While you're at it verify if he wants to go to the expense of suing someone in a foreign country, according to that countries laws and attitudes. He might find the fact that both posters and the servers on which the offending posts reside are in Australia. The posters also reside in different states, and (I think, INAL) he would have to pursue separate cases in separate states. :)

Christian Graus wrote: How he thinks he can sue me for quoting him directly is beyond me. INAL, but I dont think he can. To be Libel (or is it slander), the offending remark has to be both false and harmful. I dont think someone can sue for libel if someone says something untrue, but nice, about them. :) I dont even think he can sue for breach of copyright. The fair use part of copyright law says that you can use some part of a copyrightable work in another work. You definitely cant sue for something used as satire. Satirical shows of the 80's and 90's (Full Frontal/Fast Forward) were threatened once or twice IIRC, and nothing came of it. Christian Graus wrote: if I see any, I will respond with 'I know the answer, but if I tell you, you might sue me' He should be careful or no-one will answer any of his questions! :)
