The Guide only mentions Earth once, so I assume it refers to all thirty billion collectively. The entry for the planet says it (they) is (are) "Mostly harmless." I Drowned Schroedinger's Stupid Cat!

I think the entry just says Earth: Mostly Harmless In much the same way as it might describe "dog" or "cat" with a description of the species, rather than one particular dog called Fluffy who one researcher kept as a pet for three years until it got eaten by an Arcturan mega squirrel. (Or maybe it would). God I know h2g2 too well, if I can come up with "in style" paragraphs like that -- Help me! I'm turning into a grapefruit!
