wierd taskbar behavior...
-
Somehow I managed to grab my taskbar and enlarged it (made it 'fatter'). Ok, I know that's normal behavior, but I can't get it to go back to only one unit of width. I can grab it and make it larger or smaller in one unit increments until I get down to two units, then it disappears. When I drag it back up, it increments to two units at first, then behaves normally. How do I fix this? It's driving me nuts! :wtf:

Is it set to auto-hide? Right-click the Start button, select Properties, check the Taskbar tab.

One thing to try is to temporarily hide any toolbars such as the Quick Launch bar. Then try to resize it after they are all hidden.

Nope, but I'll try switching in and out of the setting to see if it resets to its normal behavior. Thanks!

Thanks! I'll give it a shot.

Have seen this many times. In my case, if I have many windows open, it does not allow me to go to a single unit. Here are few items to try - close any windows you don't need, with fewer windows it will be easier to resize it to single unit. - In my case, I have both Quick Launch and Destop checked, Sometimes, if the first case does not help, I uncheck both off leaving on Task bar then try again. - If this does not help, then final attempt, I drag the task bar either to the right or left until it shows vertically, then drags back to the bottom and resize. Just another undocumented feature.

Thanks for the tips. I tried dragging the bar around my display; all four sides then back to the bottom. Same thing in all locations: two units wide is the minimum. I had no apps running (so there were no icons in the bar). I even logged off then back on. Tonight I'll try rebooting to see if that helps.

This happens to me if I have one toolbar in each "row", e.g. QuickStart on top, and window list on bottom. First, right-click and disable "Lock taskbar" if necessary. Then, grab the toolbars on their funny grippers, and wave the mouse wildly drag one besides the other (e.g. Quick start two rows in the left half, window list two rows to the right of it) Then you should be able to make it smaller again.

That's indeed a feature. You need to reinstall Windows ;P A bit more seriously, though, peterchen's suggestions worked the first time it happened to me. Mark
