Anybody gotten Synergy to work on Vista? I'm about to try and was wondering if I'm going to be chipping my teeth or if there's a trick or just what. If you have tips or early warnings I'm all ears. I bagged on Synergy a while back not realizing that for Synergy there is no V in the KM. :-O

I've been using it on Vista on and off for a year. In fact right now I've got the Server on Vista box with a XP client. It seems to be working fine.

I cannot seem to get it to connect with Windows 2003 Enterprise as the server. I've allowed Synergy in the Vista Firewall Exceptions and I have the Windows 2003 Firewall disabled. For some reason I'm not winning at all. I've burned about 90 minutes on it and the documentation hasn't gotten me any traction either... I've tried synergy in the past and I guess I'm not just Synergy material. I should probably try it on 2 XP Workstations first to get a feel for it.

I can say that I have used it without a single problem on 2000/XP for years now.

I use it as the master on an XP box with Vista connecting to it. I had to upgrade to the latest (at that time) version for it to work. Even so, there are several problems: 1. when the XP is busy (like loading VS2008) moving the mouse to Vista fails. 2. when in debugging an app with XP, I can't move the mouse over to the Vista box at all. 3. Even without moving the mouse between computers, the alt, ctrl, and shift keys lose their "up" commands so I'm stuck in one of those modes until I find the correct key and hit it again. I haven't tried any further updates of Synergy. I'm running v1.3.1. Marc

I did, back when i first started using Vista. I wrote about it in the Vista forum we had at the time. It didn't work when something was running with Admin privileges, the UAC screen, etc.

I initially had some trouble with Synergy on Vista, and honestly, I don't remember what I had to do to fix it. IIRC, you had to run it as a service, and not as the user application mode. Also, there was some quirkyness with changing settings. I finally got it to work, though.. but can't remember what I did.
