I just saw the thread about Pesky Hackers. My commiserations on your virtual vandalism. I have an even worse story. Last year I installed a new letterbox, the old one was a bit ragged and bent over since someone had assaulted it. The installation went smoothly, but there was one thing missiong. I didnt have a pin to prevent the door from flapping in the breeze. So I fashioned one out of a bit of wire, crude but effective. Well, last night, on my birthday, I get home and check my mail. My little pin was missing. Some slimey piece of anal scum had stolen my letterbox door pin! What is the world coming too when a mans letterbox pin isnt safe from thievery? This is the second time something like this has happened. The last time someone stole the little screw on adapter from my outside tap. You know, the thing that lets you plug a hose on to it.

Once came home to my block of flats to find several of the lightbulbs stolen from the stairwell lights. I had to go and make the terrible trek about 100 metres up the road to the local shops and hand over the outrageous sum of $1.50 to buy the replacements before someone tripped and broke their neck. Too many people in this world are just lazy and selfish. :((

That's pretty low, swiping your pin thingy! Here we have to put out the trash just before the truck arrives, else someone will steal it. It's a great way to get rid of old furniture, broken appliances, etc.:-D There are three types of people in the world: Those who make things happen; those who watch things happen; those who wonder what happened.

Most likely just one person is behind this. You could leave out some "vandal bait" with a video camera aimed at it and see who's behind it. Or just hook one of the transformers they use for neon signs up to the letterbox and wait for your buddy to come back...

This reminds me of a story (dunno if it is true) about a guy who letterbox kept being destroyed by some twits who'd drive by and whack it with a baseball bat. What he did was get two new letter boxes, a big one and a small one. he put the small one inside the big one and filled the cavity between them with concrete. You can just imagine the fun that followed :-D

if ya think about it, these are all little things that people break, or loose, so instead of buying another one, they steal it.
