 "war-chalking", "war-walking", "war-driving". A day that I learn new jargon is a day worth coming to work for! Thanks, Chris! Cheers, Simon "Sign up for a chance to be among the first to experience the wrath of the gods.", Microsoft's home page (24/06/2002)

This is happening in London too. There's an remarkable number of networks completely open to attack, about a third according to this article

Although I don't have a lot of sympathy for anyone who sets up a wireless network without security, a possible solution would be: Catch the culprits and disembowel them on the spot, leaving their entrails on the sidewalk to mark their death for others who might wish to follow.

I like your thinking... We had a little problem with taggers here a while back. These wannabe gangbangers like to mark their territory with spray paint, and do much more damage than their useless lives are worth. I proposed that the city should hire a hunter, equipped with a tranquilizer gun, to hunt them down and affix a radio tracking collar on each. This would allow us to keep track of these animals without upsetting the animal rights advocates. As an extension of the idea, I also suggested that these collars be designed to explode whenever three or more approach within 10 meters of each other. For some reason the Council has not approved the plan, but since its suggestion, the incidence of tagging has gone down considerably:-D Instead of marrying again, I think I'll just find a woman I don't like very much and give her a house...

That's a little harsh. But I do think these punks should be sentenced to hard labor. Millions in taxpayer's money is wasted paying for work that could be done for free by little punks as punishment for crimes and misdemeanors. Road repair, vandalism/litter clean-up, snow removal, etc. Vandals, theives, bullies, hackers and ilk like that have one thing in common. They seem to think that they are somehow better than their victims in some way, and this gives them the "right" to commit the crimes. Hard humiliating labour would set them crying like babies in no time. It would humble them out, and teach them a little bit of character. They might actually contribute to society one day. Sending them to jail is simply another tax-payer money pit. Just my opinion.

"I'm not saying there should be a capital punishment for stupidity, but why don't we just take the safety labels off of everything and let the problem solve itself?" -xterm
