View of 1999... from the 60's

LOL... the other day there was a magazine article link on here about what life would be like in 2008, written in 1968... Here is a video that shows what like will be like in 1999... from the mid '60s. Again, pretty close, but missed it some. peace BobP

That's impressive. It got flat screen monitors and "browsing" right. They certainly made it seem easier to use than a keyboard and mouse! But what I really want is one of those 60's style of dial to turn the computer on and off! Marc

Wow. I've grown so accustomed to a (slightly) more enlighted society it was a bit bizarre to see the image of a subservient woman presented as the norm. Hard to believe that it wasn't so very long ago. Of course, it all looks like the cast of extras from the original Star Trek. :)

"Personal Correspondance Machine" Or... Email. But they envisioned it as using a pen with an electronic pad for actually writing an email rather than using a QWERTY style keyboard for typing it in. Also, the "husband pays the bills..." part looked almost like a spread sheet program. Really, not bad. Usually these things are so wildly off as to be comical.

And then there was the view of 1945 as seen from 1944. No big deal? The FBI thought it was when they read this in an SF magazine available on the newsstands while the best kept secret in the US was the Manhattan project: U-235 has been separated in quantity easily sufficient for preliminary atomic-power research, and the like. They got it out of uranium ores by new atomic isotope separation methods; they now have quantities measured in pounds. By ‘they,’ I mean Seilla research scientists. But they have NOT brought the whole amount together, or any major portion of it. Because they are not at all sure that, once started, it would stop before all of it had been consumed–in something like one micromicrosecond of time.

I think Space:1999 was an interesting prediction.
