Why do we need a separate Java lounge

Surely the lounge is just general interest with no fixed agenda. A virtual online water cooler... So why not mix the CP lounge with the Java lounge?

We may do this eventually but for the moment we thought we'd keep the Lounge separate so as to ensure the Java site could grow with its own personality and not be swamped by .NET and Microsoft specific talk.

So we'll let the Java experts catch up with posting gossip. Until the forums get merged, that means ... :suss: ... people who receive 1-votes in the main Lounge can continue in the Java Lounge! ;)

I completely agree with Colin. While I think the idea of having a Java section is fantastic (though I don't use it a lot these days), I don't like the idea of having a separate Lounge. By all means, have a separate forum, article section, etc, but let there just be one Lounge. Besides, I'm almost sure a separate JLounge will not end up used as often.

How exactly are the (sub)sites chosen? Will their be a continuous division of non-.NET programming langauges, or will all sub-sites eventually merge?

It's purely based on what we see as being an area of interest to developers. As to the future? That again depends on our readers. Whatever we do we'll make sure we're responding to what works best for everyone.
