      Seriously, if you can't work out the answer to this question, you need to give up on writing any chat apps anytime soon. Instead, buy a beginner book, and learn some basics before you consider having to deal with two way network communications, or anyting like that. The world is full of people who never became programmers because their initial project was ludicrous. Learn from them.
