Strange Issue

I faced a issue today which no web developer ever wants to face... "The Website is not accessible."X| All HTML pages were working fine but when you access any of the ASP page, the browser just kept on loading the page. I have never faced this type of issue before, so I had no idea how to resolve it. As my website is hosted on IXWebHosting I tried their LIVE CHAT facility. I had to wait for 15 mins before able to interact with any of their person. And when I told them about the issue with my site, that guy again made me hold for next 30 mins. So I was not able to know about the issue with my site after almost 1 hr. My site was down and I knew I am going to have a tough time today. After some time that guy, to whom I was chatting on live chat, told me that he is not able to fix the issue and suggested to submit a ticket. :(( A ticket, it means there is no way to solve this issue before 24 hrs. I decided to call them for the problem. On calling I came to know that my waiting number is 18. Oh, it means another half an hour. :wtf: So I decided to submit a ticket while waiting for my turn to talk with their technical support guy. While submitting a ticket I noticed a question which was, "Are you able to access the site by its IP address?". I checked my site by IP address and found that all pages were working fine. No issue with asp pages too. And just after accessing the site by its IP address I accessed the site with its original name. And, a big surpise was waiting for me there, my site was working fine now. ;) I am very happy but still thinking about the issue my site was facing and how it got solved by accessing it with IP address??? What may be the issue here....

DNS updates and/or local cache refresh issues (on your computer or your router)? Who knows. I am not a network expert by any stretch of the imagination. Marc

The issue must be related to router because I tried to access the site from different machines in my office and it did not work on any of them.

Definitely. Your router probably has its aspx compatibility turned off.

Since you could access the website by name for static pages shows that the DNS was working. Accessing an IP address directly does not have any impact on the DNS or its local cache; it just bypasses the DNS. I think that the problem was on the hosting server, and that was fixed around the time you decided to access the website by its IP address. I guess there were many shared websites on the same server; some other customer must have complained, and the issue was fixed by the time you tried using the IP address.
