Well, I've signed up. At some point, I presume somebody will move me from pending.

Yes. The behavior is that any new member must be approved first, and there's no option to change this. However new members can be approved by group managers so anyone wanting to do this please let me know and I'll add you. Of course because I created the group I've already taken the responsibility to do this.

It's strange, but your request hasn't pop up in the list. What does it say on your end?

Hmm. I have no idea why the request hasn't arrived yet to the group. There's a section "Requests to join" where all requests pop in. I keep receiving requests but yours hasn't come in yet. And I assume those are from people who have applied after you. Maybe it's the LinkedIn system or something. Hopefully it will pop in soon. I've added you to the Pre-approved list so as soon as the request comes in you will be approved.

Apparently for some, requests come through slower than others. But don't worry. As soon as your request comes through you will be approved.

I've never really got into all this facespace/mybo/bebook stuff. What is different about LinkedIn that makes it better? I understand it's kind of work focused?

Well LinkedIn is more of a professional network. It offers the possibility to keep in contact with people you know / trust / recommend in business. You can build a profile much like a CV and people can offer for example recommendations for you. It can be used to find jobs, people and business opportunities.

Why? Honestly, why? I've had a LinkedIn account for years. I am reminded of said account when someone asks to link with me. Marc

I guess it really depends on your intentions. Linking in together with more professionals / clients / etc and for example getting recommendations from clients might make you more visible in the industry and provide more options for landing contracts / job opportunities etc. Just like word of mouth, contributions to development communities, etc opportunities can come from here as well. It's just a matter of deciding whether it is worth it or suits your needs.

Like Marc I have been there for some time but I am reluctant to put too much detail on the web.
