Am I beginning to detect a flaming here? I see a couple of people have started to get a little touchy with Reynolds suggestions. The whole point should be to discuss proposals and implement good ones, reject bad ones. I disagree on view on the changing of the points system, and have given a serious responce on it. (See several posts above). However, I think his count of 12 posts says something. A mixture of views/opinions is useful, healthy and keeps the site vibrant. If we all agreed on everything we wouldn't use the site. But hey, Flame On!

Fair is a very subjective thing. Is it fair that I earn more for being an accountant that someone who works in a shop? Yes, I have worked harder at school/college/Uni to get where I am today. (Says I) No, I have no more needs than they do. (Say they) And who said life is fair? Build a bridge and get over it. :)

IMO it screams something. But then again I'm just an idiot gold member without any articles. Never mind that my work contract forbids it - or that as such I don't EVER approve articles.

Sour Grapes? I too have a limitation. I do VBA for Excel and C# stuff for work, and anything created is deemed to be owned by the company. I don't mind, I am learning all the time.(see profile). I find the forums useful from time to time, and I Never ask for direct code answers, I always ask for pointers or general or vague help, I wont learn if someone else does it for me. One day I will be good enough to post an article, but until then I shall remain a "country" Member of the CP Community!

No, just at his assertion that it is a "bug" when it patently isn't. He might not like the feature (and I think it is far from perfect myself) but it does do what it says on the tin.

I didn't see that. Interesting. I wonder what my count is... Gosh! Is it not 17000 yet! I'm obviously working too hard these days.

I used the word bug in the subject to attract attention to the issue. I was really after the community's view of whether or not its fair and is representative of what a CP gold member is ment to represent. How many gold members would be happy to be in the same category as the person mentioned? btw I'm not trying to start a flame-war.

First, wrong forum. Second, if you are going to start to flame someone, have the freakin' guts to name them so I don't have to copy and paste your "link." If you can't figure out how to create a hyperlink, why are you here???

Interesting. Nowhere in his list of changes does he mention the silent (or should I say dumb) univoter as a problem, but somehow or other he seems to have gotten the hang of joining that special little club.

Noooooo. You actually have to post 25 or more articles to be platinum. That's the only way to get there. I think you should have to post 10 or more articles to get gold, and forum participation shouldn't be considered. In fact, anyone that isn't already gold but that attains CP MVP status twice should be made gold. That way, forum participation would be considered with it being tied to a specific message count.

I'm not surprised. I suspect either of us could dummy* up the query to pull the data that has to be there for everyone's vote to be tracked. And I can see where he'd think it would be useful information for him. I'm not sure I am convinced that message voting helps the ambiance of the forums although I think an argument can be made that voting Mr. S down in the Lounge may temper any urge to vote down his articles. (Whether that's true in practice is arguable, though I would gather you believe it hasn't protected you.) I've never quite figured out whether I was supposed to give someone who was arguing effectively against something I believed in a 5 for effectiveness or a 1 for not believing as I do. I have something of a preference for the former, but the latter seems to be the more common practice, and I have indulged in it myself from time to time. :-O * dummy in the sense of not knowing the database.

I address that problem through the practice of not voting forum messages at all. I see the value of voting articles because that helps other users find articles that may do a better job of addressing a particular programming problem. It's just too bad that the voting system is abused on such a regular basis with regards to articles.

                                    I agree

And since it directly contravenes the justification you outlined above, allows Gresham's Law to assert its sway in the article repository - though, so far, not so completely as to make it unusable.

First, wrong forum. Second, if you are going to start to flame someone, have the freakin' guts to name them so I don't have to copy and paste your "link." If you can't figure out how to create a hyperlink, why are you here???

From what I could tell, he's been ranting about little things around here. If he doesn't like how Chris has things set up the way they are, then he can move on.

I don't code outside of work (ie. hobby or side work) so they "own" the IP I do create. I asked management about writing an article once and the "approval" process they wanted was onerous at best. I get paid quite well so for me it's not worth rocking the boat.

Bug? Why? His 2091 posts(as of this morning when I check by having to 'cut and paste' the URl you forgot to link) are all in the Soapbox, or at least the first 2 pages of posts I checked, and if I'm not mistaken is where rants, raves, flames and other posts, such as this, belong.
