Does anyone know w/c Nikon DLSR has its own AF motor inside the body? I've a Nikon d40x and I'm planning to swap it with another Nikon DSLR since my current cam doesn't support AF when using my Tamron lens. Only I'm in two minds on which DLSR I'm going to swap it with. Here are my choices: Nikon d70 Nikon d70s Nikon d80 + cash Do all of these camera have built-in AF motors or do I have to rely on my lens? Thanks for all your inputs :)

I don't know of any DSLR that has the autofocus motor in the body. Every one I've seen it's in the lens. Having the motor in the body would need a mechanical link (and a fairly precise one at that) between the body and lens, as opposed to the purely electrical contacts if the AF motor is in the lens.

All of those have a body mounted auto-focus motor. You can tell by looking at the body with no lens attached - the drive shows at the lens mount. You can see the difference in this image[^] at DPReview's review of the D40[^]. That image shows D40 and D80, this page of the review of the D70[^] shows its lens mount, with the drive quite clearly present. HTH.

Very useful link. Thanks for the reply! Now I'm leaning more on the D70...although it may seem a downgrade for most people, I'd probably benefit more from the body's AF function than an extra 4mp resolution ;P. Again, many thanks friend!

They all have, but I'd suggest shelling out the extra cash for D80. The D80 has a much better viewfinder magnification and bigger LCD. Vital IMO: my brother used to have a D50, which has a similar viewfinder to the D70, and framing a shot was a woeful experience because everything was too small. BTW, I used to have a Pentax ME Super, which has an absolutely massive viewfinder, lovely! My brother now has the D80 and loves it.
