Hey, Do America have a business register or something like that to see if a business is legit?

I have one clue. When we do a people search in Yahoo, they give some sponsored link like 'Check the records' by third party agencies right? Would such type of services help you?

In Australia, we have the Australian Business Register(ABR) which says if a business is a real business or not. I was kinda hoping the US had the same sort of thing. But thanks for your reply anyway :-)

Companies are registered with the Secretary of State in each state. Many offer free lookups of business information (some charge a small fee). Just search on the name of the state name and "Secretary of State". Two things to be aware of, though. A company could be using a DBA (doing business as) name so it makes it more difficult. And you can also use a different state for incorporation. I'd check the state of their headquarters first. If you can't find them, check Nevada and Delaware since many use them because of their laws. Last thing to remember is foreign/domestic. Foreign means out of state registration, domestic means incorporated in state. If you find it and they're foreign, it'll give the state so you can track it down there.

they do have a better business bureau to see if any complaints have been filed. You can also call and verify a business license within the state of residence for the business, but that only verifies they paid the money for the license, it says nothing about what they do in that business.
