well my sister is not allowed to install software on the PC in her office - nevertheless she would like to launch a media player (which supports playlist). Is there something like Winamp - but without any installation - the media files itself would come from the same memory stick / CD ? Thank your for your help, Bernhard

Winamp also works without installation. Just copy the directory from an installed machine.

You could also check out PortableApps[^]. They have a bunch of stuff, including various media players that have been converted to run off of memory sticks.

Another option, if your sister has a U3 capable USB flash drive would be to check out U3 Software[^]. One advantage to this is you can use it on ANY XP/2000/(and maybe Vista) machine without installing - it runs directly from the U3 drive.

You can download Media Player Classic as just the standalone EXE and run that from anywhere. It's not the greatest music player in the world, but it does playlists.

Imagine that you are hired to build a bridge over a river. The river gets slightly wider every day; sometimes it shrinks but nobody can predict when. Your contract says you can't use concrete or steel - the client only provides timber and cut stone (but won't tell you what kind). Gravity changes from hour to hour, as does the viscosity of air. Your only tools are a hacksaw, a chainsaw, a rubber mallet, and a length of rope. Welcome to my world. -Me explaining my job to an engineer
