What kind of music, if any, do you guys/gals listen to while coding. I prefer a couple: Anthrax Opeth Supertramp Steeley Dan Dire Straits CSNY "Weird Al" Based on my mood and the project I find it helps me stay focused and makes the day go by faster.

Mostly ambient, techno, minimal and music without words. Fax Label, Kompakt Label, Border Community Label, Archipel Label ...

Right now? Black Tide, "Light From Above". Absolutely brilliant bunch of young metallers who stay close enough to hard rock to keep me interested. I really like their very obvious early Metallica influence. Generally, anything with either psycho guitars and a massive rock beat if I need to wake up, or spaced-out stuff with an ambient feel if I need to relax. Nothing with good lyrics, otherwise I start to listen to it a bit too much. The lads in my workplace always break out the stereo if we're pushing to hit a deadline, it helps to build the sense of urgency and makes the hours go by a little easier. They generally play hour-long heavy dance mixes, at about 140-150 BPM, and loads of dirty grooves, at obscene volume levels. I have to say it's refreshing although I hate that kind of music under the normal run of things. Speeds up your heartrate and thinkbrain subconsciously, I find.

I only listen to music when coding something boring and repetitive. If I'm working on something tricky or new I have to have absolute silence. When I listen to music I listen to anything and everything with the exception of country music which is fit only for tone deaf weasels. :)

Saw them live not so long ago - not overly impressed - Machine Head[^] were *much* better. Seeing Electric Eel Shock[^] soon - really looking forward to that :-)
