You know what the name is for an olympic athlete who doesn't take performance enhancing drugs? The loser.

That's just silly. No sport is perfectly clean but the Olympics in particular comes about as close as you can get in this day and age. I have a *great* deal of respect for anyone who works that hard to become the best in the world at anything, why people would want to drag these people down to the mediocrity of the common man is beyond me.

My favourite shows were tooken off just for the olympics. I am so mad. They should have a channel for this and stop changing the schedules of my shows for this crap.

You have the internet--seems like most shows are available online. Aren't most programs in reruns anyhow?

My step son would like to compete someday, he is already a state and regional champ at age 10. There are those who take drugs, even at a young age, but they are not the majority. Still you are correct in that there is a problem, Hollywood has it worst, professional athletes next, the average American next, and the Olympic athletes less so. The fact that the Olympics suffers from the same problem as the average populace is no surprise, they come from the same atmosphere where drugs are accepted and preferred, that they try to be better should be congratulated, the average American wouldn't think twice about doing it themselves. Just remember that most multi-vitamins would disqualify you from the Olympics because most multi-vitamins contain performance enhancing "energy boost" additives.

Perhaps it should be turned into a competition between drug companies. This would save a lot of hassles such as drug testing.

Great answer! My wife and I went one better than this... we actually got the cable television terminated, because 99% of what was available was junk, and now we have no television programming coming into our house. We check out films from our local library (we've been into the films from the 30's, 40's, and 50's lately) and have been extremely happy with this arrangement. At first I thought I was going to miss some of the things I really enjoyed (tennis, news, DIY shows). In the end I discovered how much time I had available to do other, more relevant, things. I'm not sure we'll ever subscribe to television again. If we do, it'll be when the cable or satellite company provides a'la carte programming.

Whenever I hear the term "my shows" I cringe. The only thing I make a point of watching is cricket games in the summer time.

Regardless of what the media might want you to think, there are few athletes that cheat at the Olympics. Its very hard to get away with cheating at a big event like the Olympics because of all the strict drug testing controls they have in place.

Come on, that's hardly fair and you know it. Those people are striving to be the best in the world at something and the vast majority are not cheating at all. They deserve our respect.

I agree. It's easy to sit on the couch and mock these people. I suspect the majority of people who do so have no idea of how hard it is to get to the top tier of a sport.

I can't comment about the Olympics but I can draw a parallel from another sport in which a friend of mine was involved at the top level. They too have a drugs testing policy but the intention was to avoid catching anyone if possible. As a result, on days where random samples were due, the doctor would walk in and announce that a nasty virus was going around and if anyone felt unwell, they should go home now! So do the Olympic organisers actually want people caught - with all the attendant bad publicity or do they merely want to be seen to be doing the job? Rich

Depending on where you live they might already be legally required to do so. The few people i know who did go that route had to bludgeon their way through heavy resistance from the customer disservice types to get it done though.

Possible, but not something I'm aware of in my area. It's certainly not something that (Comcast) is making publicly known. To be honest, I'm not quite wanting to go to the effort it'll probably take to get them to give me the a'la carte programming.

They wouldn't. It was something they were required to offer due to a legislative gun to the head. To be objective if it did become widespread the cable co's doomsday scenario would probably end up coming true and you'd not actually save a penny: instead of paying $50/mo for the 5 channels you care about and watch regularly and 45 channels you almost never watch ($1/channel), you'd be paying $50/mo for the 5 channels you care about and not getting any of the others at all ($10/channel) because the companies producing the channels would insist on getting the same total amount of revenue (needed to maintain their level of programming).

Yep, it's hard to find good shows like "Green Acres" and "The Beverly Hillbillies" anymore. (Sarcasm...) :-D

Those two are better shows than a lot of the crap that's being created these days. Especially Green Acres, that's a classic.

Perhaps it should be turned into a competition between drug companies. This would save a lot of hassles such as drug testing.
