Can anyone in S.A., particularly in Cape Town area, recommend a data recovery company to recover data from a damaged hard drive. The drive was in an external USB case and had the wrong power supply plugged into it which subsequently fried the casing electronics and the drive.

Ouch! I'm in Cape Town, but cant help you. Just how fried is it? Does it spin? Just how important is the data? I think it will cost a lot more to recover than to just replace the drive.

I think its pretty much gone. I put it in PC, but the drive doesn't spin at all and the PCB on the drive gets quite hot. I think the actual platters are OK so I'm positive that all the data can be recovered. Yip.. I have been googling and found a place that will do an emergency/priority recovery for about R2500.00. I'm willing to spend that amount on getting my data back. A friend phoned a short while ago and told me of a place near map studio that does it for about R500.00
