So, iPhone 3G is the new shiny toy with superb marketing. It seems it's not the best phone really. I would like to hear from people who own iPhone 3G and can list its cons, problems, lacks, etc. ...before I decide to buy my own. :P Maybe it's not a good move after all.

It's a cool toy, but it's hard work to develop for. Being able to develop for my phone is cool tho. It SUCKS as a phone. The way the screen turns off ( or not ) during a call, is illogical and unusable. If you use the headset, it's fine, but if you don't, it's an overpriced paperweight. The way Apple locks down distribution through the app store makes it a nightmare for people who want some control ( we wanted to make our app free, but only to people who buy our main app, for example ). Oh, the on screen keyboard totally blows.

not being au fait with teenager lingo, does that mean 'its great' or does 'it blows' mean 'it sucks' CG ? Im a sufferer of 'ffs' - fat finger syndrome .. so unless I can find a replacement for an almost usable keyboard (My Blackberry 8700 comes close, but its in the shop coz the scroll-wheel died), I'd be tempted by this sorta interface alone - sad but true.. When I had a Palm V using graffiti, or on my Ipac 5550 with 'Calligrapher' installed I can write very well - I just wish there was a phone with this technology built in - for me, that would 'rock'/be 'wicked'/'sick'.. 'g' ps.. in no way of course am I implying you're a teenager ;P

Thanks, strange that no one complained about Safari's lack of support for Java and Flash. ;) And that the phone only has a 2mpix camera. I am myself wondering whether to go for it or wait for Google Android...

Before you buy it, Google for "maddox iphone" without the quotes. Read the review and make your decision.

Actually, it is not a technical review, but is worth a read if you like satire. iphone is not worth the money. Consider Blackberry or HTC if you are a business user or take a Nokia otherwise. I've had bad experiences with most other brands. IMHO, Nokia manufactures the best. :)

It depends what you want the device for as to whether or not there are any cons or not. Personally I got it because it's iPod + phone, so it's one less device to carry around. I haven't experienced any of the more common bugs. If you want a camera phone per se then it may not be for you, but for a 2mp it's probably the best out there, brilliant image processing. Great for mobile t'internets, but depends on which country you're in as to whether or not the plans are good value for money, in the UK they're pretty good. My biggest gripes are the lack of full bluetooth, this restricted thing they've got going is nigh on useless and it could definitely do with a camera upgrade and a flash, but as the device I wanted it for (iPod + phone) it's worked great!

I want: 1. a smartphone with applications 2. browse websites, use web apps using WiFi (3G is less important, at least WiFi is mostly free) 3. a digital camera (my current Sony Ericsson model has 2mpix, but there are nice 5mpix phones already with a xenon flash lamp... ) In that order. And now... ad 1) I understand that I have to get my apps from Apple? What about free apps and 3rd party stuff? I can't just download something elsewhere and install on my iPhone? ad 2) I know it does not have Java nor Flash, but do other mobile devices have them? I think it's not a big problem. ad 3) I'd really like the improvement of having a 5mpix camera with a xenon flash light. :( My current one is 2mpix, the day pictures are great (I would have never thought that a mobile phone can take such good pictures), but night/dark ones are total crap. iPhone may have the same quality...

It looks like a "review" of the first version of iPhone, though, not the 3G.
