Recently I noticed there is a way to identify which direction you are going (or driving) using the iPhone. In the Google Maps, click the 'Current Location' button and when you are walking or driving the blue circle (GPS) will move according to the location. But if the blue circle is going towards the home button then you are going 'south' and guess the other directions yourself. This is useful only if you are in the street level.

But you can do that with any phone with GPS, infact in some software it will actually TELL you what direction you're going in without you having to check your position a few times.
