I did. I just don't agree with him. :P I was missing Windows support from Amazon, some people try emulating Windows Server on a Fedora image. Speaking of storing and computing stuff in the cloud I wonder whether Stallman knows what web hosting or email are...

IIRC he only uses text email and browses with lynx.

Yeah I just saw that! What are EC2's rates/performance compared to say a shared web host? Would I be able to run a whole web server off of EC2 or is it meant for other things like web services. Either way, this is pretty exciting for us Windozers. :)

Yes. Even 2000 web servers if you can afford that. :P You can run as many as you need. Those are virtual machines running on Amazon's infrastructure, I have only used it once to run some Linux in order to move Gmail history between two accounts. I would have to calculate the costs, because it is possible that putting Windows Server on Amazon EC2 may be a lot cheaper than buying a virtual/dedicated server with the 'standard' (not cloud) hosting providers. The main advantage of cloud computing is its scalability - need more RAM? Put a simple request to the web service. Need more computers? Put a simple request to the web service. Done computing, traffic went down and don't need the extra power? Put a simple request to the web service. And so it goes. :)

Cool stuff. I especially love the "pay only for what you use" aspect of things.

I received a billing statement from Amazon yesterday. I uploaded about 2GB of files into my S3 bucket, used an EC2 Linux machine for an hour and made tens of thousands of requests... It costed me $1.64 for the whole September... Including taxes. :-D
