Forget Bond, who's the best Discworld Character? I'm hoping for the minor characters, but I guess it'll be Carot/Sam/Granny/Nanny/The Agony Aunts. I couldn't remember who I was thinking of, but I finally found Amschat B'hal Zoon[^]. I think he's great, yesno?

I like Sam Vimes as he is down to earth and doesn't like taking crap or BS from anyone. Vetinari is wonderfully politically astute and I love the way he can weave situations with seemingly very little efforts.

Honestly. I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Death or Lord Vetinarii. Of course, there are the old favourites: Sam Vimes Nobby Fred Colon Detritus Glod Twoflower Susan Sto Helit Mort Albert Moloch The Great A'Tuin and the person on who my own sig is loosely based Lu Tze.

Death is good. But I prefer Vetinarii.

Sam Vimes was good in the first couple of books about him. The last one I read (where he was trapped in the past) came across as long, morose, pseudo-philosophical rant and was a tedious read. The whimsical humour of the early Discworld books has pretty much gone, more's the pity.

Otto the vampire photographer in The Truth. I laughed all 7,342 times he took a picture. The joke never got old. He's got a new YA book out. Nation. Not a Discworld novel.

"Oh, please sue the university! We've got a pond full of people who tried to sue the university..." - Archchancellor Ridcully Ridcully plays hardball, man. My favourite sentiment from any of the books.

I'm rather fond of the Patrician of Ankh-Morpork, Lord Havelock Vetinari... but that's only because he uses his megalomaniacal tendencies for good... Sort of... Well, goodish anyway, I think...

Imagine that you are hired to build a bridge over a river which gets slightly wider every day; sometimes it shrinks but nobody can predict when. Your client provides no concrete or steel, only timber and cut stone (but they won't tell you what kind). The coefficient of gravity changes randomly from hour to hour, as does the viscosity of air. Your only tools are a hacksaw, a chainsaw, a rubber mallet, and a length of rope. Welcome to my world. -Me explaining my job to an engineer

They are indeed. Not the best people to (in effect) steal from really.

I'm warming to Moist von Lipwig and his split personality that means he always ends up doing the right thing in spite of looking for a good scam at every opportunity. If you haven't read "Making Money" it is very appropriate at the present time. Obviously it couldn't be true I mean the fact that it cost the bank more to produce coinage than the coins were worth ... that would mean they'd have to borrow money just to make the money that was worth less. No, bankers would never be that stupid .... Hang on ... :sigh: Rich
