Nonsense. A radically leftist government (the kind guys like you would support) suits my purposes far better than would another milquetoast republican administration paying lipservice to conservative principles. It is a perfect time for conservatives to abandon the field to the left, fall back and regroup.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.

You really are going to be disappointed then. If Obama is elected you aren't going to see a radically leftist government. We have most definitely had a radical government for the last 8 years and, with any luck, we'll have a president Obama who will put that to an end.

Amen to that. The R's very much need to re-embrace conservative principles.

I don't know what you are talking about. Indignant over "Waterboard Obama"? It's no skin off my nose. I'm more than happy to see McCain and the Republicans go down in flames with their self-destructive negative campaign.

I would bet my bottom dollar that a great majority of Americans would vote "none of the above," if they could. Note that the nation's opinion of Congress, under both Republican and Democratic leadership has been the one thing consistently lower than Bush's approval rating.

Maybe, maybe not. I am curious as to what conclusion(s) you think you could draw from that, if it were true.

Not sure how that relates to the public's opinion on the relative nastiness of the two campaigns.

I sit corrected. I leapt to the concept of the relative attractiveness of the two parties, which, I agree, was not your point.

The dumbest thing you can do is fight back 'in kind.' Never, ever, let your opponent(s) determine the level of combat. If you decide that you need to fight, then you fight to win, using all necessary force - no more, and no less.

Exactly the kind of imaginative defense a nine-year old would offer to excuse his behavior. I didn't buy it from my kids, and I'm certainly not going to get swept up in your fantasies, either.

No, the dumbest thing you can do in a fight is allow your opponent to dictate the terms of how it will be fought, to tell you how you are allowed to fight, what tactics and weapons you can use. To win a a fight you must be able to turn your opponent's greatest strengths against him.

We'll see. Obama has two choices. He can continue Bush's basic policies (which will leave those such as yourself feeling betrayed) or he can implement the kinds of change people like you want (which will leave everyone else who voted for him feeeling betrayed). I agree completely. The republicans deserved to be taught a lesson, to be knocked back to a core base of pro-free market, pro-christian, pro-jeffersonian core, and begin rebuilding from there for as long as it takes for the American people to become tired of being turned into a European social welfare state.

We certainly need to shout down those who mischaracterize the man as a libertarian. He wasn't. He would have seen the inherent unworkability of libertarian principles as easily as any other intelligent person. That's why he didn't create a government based on those principles.

Chaining ourselves to the moral high ground does not make us good guys. Aside from making us easy targets, it merely makes us idiotic prisoners of our own self loathing.
