Advice regarding security software

I want some kind of security software in my Laptop running Windows Vista. Please advice me. I heard good comments about Kaspersky. Norton has a reputition of slowing down the system. But in Amazon, i've read some really good comments about latest Norton 2009. Thus, a bit confused. Please give me your suggestions.

I can't say for Vista specifically, but from my experience with XP Professional, I'd recommend NOD32 from Eset. I've also tried Avast and AVG, they'd be my second and third choices. For everything you'd ever want to know, go here: http://www.av-comparatives.org/[^]

I use AVG, but like most of them it annoys the hell out of me that it tries to do everything under the sun. I just want antivirus but you can't seem to get that these days.

Hi John, I bought NOD32 earlier this year, as mentioned above. I chose the anti-virus and firewall combination. As I remember it, you can also buy only AV without the firewall, not certain though. Anyway the product I have is very light-weight and unobtrusive. Check them out next time you're in the market....

AVG/it’s also free/ or NOD32. Avoid Norton/Symantec – a real crap and McAfee – good and reliable, but you need your computer to do more then just running your anti-virus.

Why not just run Vista with 128 MB of RAM and a faulty hard drive ? The end result will be the same.
